Graduating Seniors: A Message for You.
COVID-19 has disturbed every aspect of what the graduating class of 2020 had hoped for — taking glamorous pictures in fancy outfits at prom, walking across the stage in cap and gown during graduation, and creating long-lasting second-semester senior memories with friends, teachers, and family. It is disappointing, saddening, and devastating.
But let’s take a journey back to when we first stepped through our high school doors. Some felt shocked at the grandiose of such a building. Others may have experienced an inferiority complex standing next to the towering upperclassmen (I certainly did). Most of us, however, probably sensed some type of excitement. Perhaps it was looking forward to the first high school homecoming or getting to know new peers.
In the days, weeks, and months to come, we situated ourselves at our home for the next four years. Many of the people I knew made a seamless transition from middle school to high school, joining clubs, continuing passions, and thriving academically. However, there were also those who struggled through that process: unable to find friends to sit with during lunch, adjusting to a new grading system and routine, or grappling with an unknown identity.
But I am sure that you all have experienced those moments for which you will cherish yet cringe at. Your first contribution in an in-class discussion may have received resounding praise about how good your public speaking is or you could have stumbled your way through words and sentences to ultimately feel…
