After graduating from Harvard in 1991 with a degree in film studies, Joy began her career working for a business consulting firm in New York. Joy then changed careers to journalism in 1997 at a news station in South Florida. In 2003, Joy took a short break from journalism to work for America Coming Together, an organization dedicated to opposing the Iraq War. In 2006, she returned to journalism as the co-host of Wake Up South Florida, a morning radio talk show. In 2008, she worked on Obama’s presidential campaign. A few years later, Joy served as managing editor of The Grio, a news organization dedicated to covering African Americans. During much of this time, Joy also was a political columnist for the Miami Herald and the editor of the Reid Report blog. She joined MSNBC in 2014 as host of the Reid Report show and later as a national correspondent, before becoming the host of the weekend AMJoy show and now she hosts a primetime show, the ReidOut.
