Jill Wine-Banks and Victor Shi are joined by Olivia Troye — a former Department Homeland Security official under Vice President Mike Pence who came to support President Biden — to examine the dangers to democracy coming from Putin and the modern Republican party. They discuss her career path, what it was like working in the Trump administration, the Ukrainian invasion, and how to restore facts and authentic debate to our politics.
Olivia Troye worked on national security and homeland security issues at the National Counterterrorism Center, the United States Department of Energy Office of Intelligence and Counterintelligence, and the DHS Office of Intelligence and Analysis. Olivia then served as a homeland security and counterterrorism advisor to Vice President Mike Pence and as a member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force until she left her position in summer of 2020. Since then, Olivia has been an outspoken critic of Donald Trump and endorsed Joe Biden for president. Currently, she is the Chief Strategy Officer for the Renew America Movement, which is actively working to elect better Republicans to office and prevent Trump from gaining more power in 2024, as well as Vice President of strategy, policy, and plans at the National Insurance Crime Bureau.
